Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime auctioned for 31 million Swiss francs

- Reference 6300A-010: This unique piece was created in 2019 for the Only Watch charity auction. The "A" stands for Acier – the case is made of stainless steel, a material unusual for Patek Philippe for this model.
- Record-breaking auction: It fetched 31 million Swiss francs. The proceeds went to research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy. This made it the most expensive watch ever sold at auction at that time.
- Two dials: The case can be flipped over. On one side, the watch shows the time; on the other, it features a perpetual calendar, among other things.
- 20 complications: These include a grande sonnerie, a petite sonnerie, a minute repeater, an alarm with a striking mechanism, and a date repeater mechanism that signals the date acoustically.
- Four patented innovations: Among other things, Patek Philippe developed new solutions for the date repeater as well as for the display and operation of the striking functions.
- Massive movement: The GS 36-750 QIS FUS IRM caliber consists of 1,366 individual parts. Despite its many functions, it offers a power reserve of at least 72 hours.
- Not the only Grandmaster Chime: The reference 6300 was introduced in 2014 for the company's 175th anniversary. The 6300G in white gold and 6300R in rose gold are part of the regular collection; the stainless steel piece from Only Watch was the exceptionally rare special version.
A small correction for context: The Grandmaster Chime is not simply the "most complicated watch in the world." It is one of the most complicated wristwatches from Patek Philippe; other watches may have even more functions depending on how they are counted.
