Audemars, Piguet & CIE
Audemars, Piguet & Cie was founded in 1875 by Jules Audemars and Edward Piguet, both successors to fine horological families. This company produced many fine high grade and complicated watches, predominantly in nickel and, with a few exceptions, fully jeweled. their complicated watches are sought after more than time only pocket and wrist watches. Jules Audemars was born in Le Brassus in 1851 and trained by local master watchmakers. He began working as a "repasseur" after his apprenticeship. In 1874, he moved to Gimel and opened up a small business but he did not achieve the success he had hoped for. With in a short time, he moved back to Le Brassus, hoping to find a situation more fitting to his skills. Edward Auguse Piguet was born in 1853 and received a similar education as his future partner. Under the guidance of Charles Capt. he became a "repasseur". In 1875, the two met in Le Brassus and began working together unofficially. In 1880, they moved their business to Geneva. In 1882, the name "Audemars, Piguet & Cie" was finally registered in Bern as producing movements and watch cases. Jules Audemars was the technical manager while Edward Piguet was the financial specialist. This division of labor served them well for man ears, working together until 1918 when Audemars died at the age of 67. Piguet died the following year. The name of Audemars Piguet became synonymous with extremely high quality, superbly thin movements and incredible complications.
