Casio Uhren Altersbestimmung G-Shock DW-5600 - Sammler-Uhren

Casio watch age determination G-Shock DW-5600

Typical time periods (rules of thumb)

epoch Notes
1974–1982 Very early digital watches, often collector's items
1983–1990 First G-Shocks, early classics
1990–2000 F-91W, A168, widespread mass production
2000–2010 Edifice, Pro Trek, modern modules
2010–present Smart features, solar power, Bluetooth

Model number (e.g. F-91W, DW-5600, A168WA)

The model number tells you:

  • when the model was first launched

  • often very accurate (year known!)

Examples:

  • F-91W → since 1991

  • DW-5600 → Original 1983

  • G-Shock DW-6900 → 1995

  • A168 → 1990s

For example, if your watch is an F-91W, that doesn't mean it's from 1991 – it could also be from 2005 or 2020.

MR-G

Since the introduction of the G-Shock series, Casio has attempted to serve many markets. For example, in 1996, a limited edition G-Shock made of stainless steel and titanium was designed under the product name MR-G and distributed through select retailers. This created a model with high collector and rarity status. The MR-G series reached its peak in 2003. With the MRG-8000G model and a price of €3100, Casio even managed to enter the lower end of the luxury watch category.

Baby-G

Baby-G is the G-Shock variant for girls and young women. While G-Shock previously focused exclusively on men's models, Baby-G aims to create a more feminine design with a smaller case and several color variations. Since 2011, Casio has collaborated with superstar and platinum-selling singer Kesha for the first time. The BGA160KS-7B was released as a limited edition in 2012. In 2014, the singer designed two brand-new designs: a digital watch in several colors (blue, white, red – corresponding to the American flag) and an analog dial with a leopard print.

G-MIX

In 2014, Casio introduced the G-Mix series. Casio had previously produced Bluetooth watches that could be paired with iPhones or Android devices. The G-Mix GBA-400 series specifically expanded the Bluetooth connection to the smartphone's MP3 player. For this to work, the user needs to install an app on their smartphone, which then connects to the watch. In terms of design, Casio emphasized an analog dial combined with a digital display for the MP3 player information. The watch's crown serves as a control wheel for navigating through songs and adjusting the volume.
