Glashütte Original is one of the watch brands from Glashütte, Saxony, and is manufactured in the Glashütte watch factory. Along with A. Lange & Söhne, it is considered one of the two most prestigious watch brands from Glashütte. It was acquired by the Swatch Group in 2000.
Story
While the brand's roots date back to 1845, the brand has existed under its current name since 1994, four years after German reunification. From the very beginning, it produced exclusively mechanical watches with in-house calibers. The logo is a modified version of the "Glashütte" logo of the VEB Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe (VEB Glashütte watch company).
In 2000 the brand was acquired by the Swatch Group.
Today, Glashütte Original watches consist of 95% of components manufactured in-house, including the dials. This is unusual even for a luxury watch manufacturer.
