Herschede & Revere Uhren Altersbestimmung nach Werknummer - Sammler-Uhren

Herschede & Revere watches age determination by movement number

In 1929, Herschede sold both mechanical and electric clocks. The quality of the materials and workmanship were the same for both types of clocks: no expense was spared!

Collectors will be surprised to learn that mechanical clocks were originally cheaper than electric ones. The electric motor winds a small mainspring, which sets the pendulum in oscillation.

The motor also powers the carillon and striking mechanism. A system of cams and levers ensures that two gears engage the center wheel when the carillon begins and disengage when it ends. The same applies to the striking mechanism.

Although this differs from conventional mechanical carillon and striking mechanism designs, repairing and adjusting these mechanisms is straightforward. Revere clocks were similar to Herschede clocks, but lacked a pendulum or balance wheel:

Timekeeping was done by an electric motor, which in turn was controlled by the power frequency. This meant that the time would be displayed incorrectly in the event of a power outage. While Herschede clocks ran for about 24 hours without power, Revere clocks remained stopped until the power was restored.

For this reason, Revere clocks were not sold under the Herschede name. The design of the mechanisms was based on the mechanical Herschede clocks and shared some parts and design features. Cases, dials, hands, chimes, and tubular bells were all of the same exquisite quality.
