Patria Aegler Rolex watches Age determination

Origin of the brand “Patria”

  • Founded: around 1892 in Bienne (Biel), Switzerland , by Aegler SA .
  • Meaning: “Patria” was one of the first brands under which Aegler sold high-quality pocket watches and early wristwatches — even before “Rolex”1 emerged as the main brand .
  • Around 1905–1910, Aegler supplied both Patria and Wilsdorf & Davis (Rolex) watches with the same “Rebberg” movements.

1 Hans Wilsdorf (Rolex founder) worked directly with Aegler. That is why many early Patria and Rolex movements are very similar.

Aegler numbered his works consecutively across all brands (Patria, Rebberg, early Rolex).
This results in the following approximate allocation:

Serial number (approx.) Year of manufacture Typical characteristics
< 200,000 before 1905 Early pocket watches, signature often “Aegler” or “Patria Genève”
200,000 – 300,000 1905 – 1910 Early wristwatches, Rebberg base movement, still without Rolex reference
300,000 – 500,000 1910 – 1915 High-quality vineyard works, 15–17 rubies, some already used in parallel for “W&D”.
500,000 – 700,000 1915 – 1920 Classic Patria signature, often silver case, enamel dial
700,000 – 900,000 1920 – 1925 Transition to Rolex caliber 600/700, last Patria models
> 900,000 after 1925 Aegler focused on "Rolex" – brand use "Patria" largely disappears.
