Original Frères Esquivillon & Dechoudens a Geneve verge key pocket watch, solid silver (acid tested), circa 1790
Collectors need no introduction to the legendary Geneva watchmakers Esquivillon and Dechoudes; they were among the very best watchmakers of their era. The few remaining "Frères Esquivillon" verge pocket watches can be found in many major museums.
Case diameter: 44mm, white enamel dial with Roman numerals, continuous railway minute track, blued, pear-shaped hands, signed "Esquivillon a Geneve"
Early gilded work also signed "Esquivillon a Geneve".
The dial and movement are double-folding with a hinge (see photos); a non-original winding key is included.
Les Frères Esquivillon & De Choudens
Esquivillon & De Choudens operated in Geneva and Paris from around 1765 to 1830. The Geneva watchmaker Jacques Dechoudens (1728-1801) founded a workshop with the brothers Joseph Esquivillon (1714-1798), Jean François Esquivillon (1) (1733-1813), and Gédéon-François Esquivillon (1717-1799), which produced high-quality verge pocket watches. The watches were usually signed Les Frères Esquivillon & De Choudens, but also Esquivillon & De Choudens and Les Frères Esquivillon.
