Record Dreadnought "A2148" nearly new men's pocket watch, probably of military origin
Case diameter: mighty 55mm, Arabic numerals (the dial has probably been professionally restored, everything is beautiful and pure white, but numerals and hands no longer glow), magnificent Breguet-style hands, indirect seconds / sub-dial in Panda style, massive, thick mineral crystal, which protrudes 2mm from the bezel
Below the type designation "Record Dreadnought" is the identification "A2148", which indicates military use, although we cannot currently assign this designation to the army of a specific country
The designation "Record Dreadnought" belongs to the Swiss watch company Record Watch Co. The name originated after a company merger in 1916, when several companies were merged under the name Record Dreadnought Watch Co. S.A.
If you own a Record Dreadnought pocket watch, it usually dates from between the 1910s and 1940s. Typical features:
- Hand-wound movement ("stem winding")
- Swiss lever escapement
- Often 7 to 17 jewels
- Cases often by Dennison or Illinois Watch Case Co.
- Models like "Trenton" were sold under the Record-Dreadnought name.
Historical Background
After its founding in 1903, the company quickly developed into a significant Swiss manufacturer. In 1916, the name Record Dreadnought Watch Co. was introduced, before the name Record was used again later. In the 1960s, Longines acquired a majority stake in Record.
