Earliest and fully signed A. Lünser Berlin Buren Grand Prix deck clock ship's clock of the Imperial Navy in World War I, circa 1914

A. Lünser Berlin was—like Löbner Berlin or FW Kreis Berlin—one of the very first registered and oldest suppliers to the German military, the Navy, and later the Wehrmacht. A dial signed "A. Lünser Berlin" thus attests to its military purpose and use.

Lünser Berlin has never produced its own works, but has always - as with the super rare example of this offer - incorporated high-quality third-party works.

This magnificent piece of military watch history bears the official acceptance stamp of the Imperial Navy in World War I on the screwed caseback, as shown in some photos from the "Bible of Military Watches" by Konrad Knirim - page 72 ff.

Description:

Buren Grand Prix - A.Lünser Berlin deck watch, Imperial Navy service watch circa 1915 with complete and authentic minting / acceptance stamp of the German Navy including naval application number (see examples of other observation watches from Konrad Knirim's "Military Timepieces")

Smooth argentan case with a diameter of 52.5 cm, black dial with Arabic numerals and luminous hands, indirect second at the "6"

Black dial with luminous hands and numerals, circumferential railway minute track, screwed case back and screwed bezel

The rare and sought-after artifact runs and runs continuously (accuracy not tested)

EZ: 2: good general condition considering the age and military use, radium luminous numerals in good condition, approx. 1cm "damage" or impurity, which is hardly noticeable if you don't know it, otherwise dial unrestored without damage, few recognizable signs of age or wear, lids close flush, tarnishes on and through

A. Lünser Berlin

German watch manufacturers and dealers

The A. Lünser company was based in Berlin, founded by August Lünser, and existed until the end of World War II. It was a watch wholesaler in Berlin Schöneberg at Friederichstraße 89b. Similar to Hartman, FW Kreis, and FL Löbner, it exclusively housed movements from other manufacturers and sold them under co-branding. Only high-quality movements were used.

The components were purchased, some of which were then assembled by hand. Many of these watches were sold to the military. The Wehrmacht purchased directly from Lünser. There are several watches from Lünser Berlin, sometimes also under the name Grana Lünser, which were purchased from Kurth Frères. Other brands also existed, such as Breitling, Alpina, Heuer, Buren, etc. Lünser was also apparently a major customer of Junghans.
