Extremely rare, museum-quality artifact of antique horology: an original English coachman's clock from around 1740 with repeater/striking bell and date display on the dial.

The term "repetition" describes the extremely rare, innovative function for the era that the time or its hourly chime can be called out at any time - especially at night while traveling - by means of a thread leading out of the case.

Attention: This is currently a non-functional, but complete restoration project. The repeater works and sounds beautifully refined.

The watch is therefore offered until further notice as partially defective and a restoration project.

Description:

Solid, round brass case with a beautifully handcrafted bezel, case diameter a substantial 13cm, weighing approximately 700g - 800g.

Unrestored white enamel dial with blackened Roman numerals, gilt Kyma relief band, hour and minute hands, blued steel Breguet-style hands, third hand with circumferential date display.

Gilded spindle full-plate movement, repeater function of the hour strike by thread pull on a gong.

The case shows a London acceptance mark (see photos), therefore it is probably an English watch.

Together with repeater and date display, a unique artifact of watchmaking history, and all this - because it is in found condition and a restoration project - at an absolutely special price!

EZ: 4 - 5 : Restoration object, does not start (repetition works), complete, but cannot be wound up
