History of the watch design legend Franck Muller:

The watchmaker Franck Muller was born on July 11, 1958, to an Italian mother and a Swiss father. Even at a young age, he was considered an exceptional talent. After four years of training at the watchmaking school in Geneva, he worked for the renowned watchmaker Svend Andersen as well as for important Swiss watch manufacturers. By the age of 24, his ability to miniaturize complications had spread, and he received commissions to restore valuable watches from the most important top brands, e.g., Patek Philippe, Breguet, Lange & Söhne, and Vacheron Constantin.

In 1991, at the age of just 33, Muller teamed up with Geneva-based gemstone and case expert Vartan Sirmakes to become independent and founded the new brand Franck Muller, Genève. The goal was to create exclusive timepieces characterized by complicated movements and original designs. Thanks to its strong internal expertise in numerous areas of Haute Horlogerie, this young company quickly developed into one of the best Swiss watch brands. The brand is known for its many innovations in the field of complications. It is independent of the major watch groups.

A merger attempt with the Swatch Group failed in 2016. The main factory, which is currently being expanded, is located in Genthod in the canton of Geneva and employs 370 people. The company employs a total of 680 people. Meanwhile, Sirmakes manages the company as director, while Franck Muller primarily handles watchmaking matters.

In 2015, it lost a lawsuit against the Japanese brand Frank Miura, which it accused of copying its name to cause confusion. A merger attempt with the Swatch Group failed in 2016. In that year, the company hoped to sell between 42,000 and 45,000 watches at an average price of 6,000 to 7,000 Swiss francs, corresponding to a targeted turnover of 300 million francs.

World Premieres

Franck Muller is also known for its "World Premieres." Each year, the manufacturer introduces at least one new watch line that offers something special and exclusive, never before seen in the watch industry. Franck Muller watches set numerous records; for example, in both 1992 and 1998, it claimed the title of "most complicated wristwatch in the world." The former included a perpetual calendar with retrograde month and equation of time display, day of the week, date, 24-hour, and leap year cycle display, moon phase, and a thermometer. This watch was subsequently significantly expanded by Paul Gerber, Zurich. With the chronograph movements FM 3200 and FM 3210, entirely manufactured in-house, Franck Muller achieved the status of a manufacture in 2006.
