A classic and design icon of a military watch from the USA, Vietnam War era: Gilbert GI JOE mechanical wristwatch, plastic, with compass and bearing device
Attention: This watch was never officially issued by the US Army, but was privately purchased and used by many US soldiers/GIs during the Vietnam War because it was so practical, versatile, and lightweight with its plastic case.
Case dimensions: 65mm x 40mm, camouflage-colored plastic case with screw-on case back, mechanical Gilbert clock and a concealed/recessed compass with bearing (see photos), hand-wound, camouflage-colored textile understated strap
Black and white dial with minute, 12-hour, and 24-hour displays. Fluorescent hands and luminous hour markers.
The rare watch features two different hand engravings/incisions on the case back, proving that it was probably actually in Vietnam and worn there by a GI named Riley during combat operations.
Clock starts and runs (accuracy not tested)
EZ 2, few normal signs of use on the case apart from the owner's scratches on the plastic case back (see photos), runs and keeps time, under-bracelet like new
