High-quality original GUB quartz movement type 1-71. External sockets for electrical plugs are fitted, presumably to allow the marine chronometer to be permanently installed and operated without batteries.
It's a mystery to us why the chronometer runs perfectly even though only 2 of the 4 possible batteries are inserted. Presumably, the missing 2 batteries increase the running time.
"Glashütte Quarz" marked, silver-colored dial with serial/movement number, screwed-on crystal, Arabic numerals, minute track, small seconds, and brass leaf-shaped hands. Hand setting via setting pin, stop-seconds pusher at 6 o'clock.
External dimensions of the wooden box: 21cm x 28cm x 25cm; dimensions of the chronometer itself: 18cm x 18cm x 15cm. An enclosed, handwritten note suggests a comprehensive restoration by a specialist in 2017 (see photos).
This magnificent piece of marine and chronometer history starts and runs (accuracy not tested), delivered in the original wooden case with original leather straps.
