History of the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer Maurice Lacroix (Source: Wikipedia):
Maurice Lacroix produces 120,000 watches annually, 50,000 of which are mechanical movements.[2] The company, part of the eponymous holding company based in Zurich, has belonged to Zurich-based DKSH[3] since 2011 and employs around 200 people, about 170 of whom are at the international headquarters in Biel and in the production facilities in Saignelégier and Montfaucon in Switzerland. "Maurice Lacroix" was the name of a member of the board of the parent company. He passed away at the time when the launch of an independent watch brand was being considered. In his honor, his name was chosen as the brand name.

Founding and Company History
The founder of the brand was Peter Brunner, the president and delegate of the board of directors of Desco von Schulthess AG. In 1961, Zurich-based Desco von Schulthess AG acquired an assembly plant in Saignelégier in the Jura for the production of private label watches for the national and international market. In 1975, the brand was founded in Saignelégier, and the company sold its first watch under the name Maurice Lacroix in Austria. The brand name was introduced in Spain in 1976.[4] In the 1980s, an international sales network was established, and the company's German headquarters were opened in Pforzheim. In 1989, Maurice Lacroix acquired the Swiss case factory Queloz SA, which also produces cases for other renowned watch brands.

In addition to numerous models with quartz movements, a mechanical watch collection called Masterpiece Collection was launched in 1990, featuring technical innovations as a trademark, with blued screws and polished bridges. As a quality feature, Maurice Lacroix was one of the first manufacturers to offer the possibility of viewing the movement through glass case backs.

In autumn 2001, Maurice Lacroix S.A., previously a division of Desco von Schulthess AG, became an independent legal entity. Since July 2011, DKSH has held a majority stake in Maurice Lacroix. In 2006, Maurice Lacroix presented its first chronograph caliber (ML 106), developed in collaboration with watch inventor and constructor Andreas Strehler.[6] The complex movement components for mechanical calibers are manufactured in its own workshops in Montfaucon near Saignelégier. This allows Maurice Lacroix to be counted among the Swiss watch manufacturers. Today (2012), Maurice Lacroix is represented by around 200 employees worldwide in approximately 3300 specialist shops in over 60 countries around the globe
