The GUB precision timekeeping instruments of VEB Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe (GUB) were designed for the harshest conditions at sea. They had to be easy to operate, position-independent, and offer the highest accuracy and reliability.

When changing the batteries (commercially available round cells), the clockworks could not be interrupted. An electronic voltage stabilizer ensures a consistent power supply to the oscillator, which uses a quartz crystal with a nominal frequency of 4.19 MHz.

The chronometer was calibrated using two measuring sockets and a disc trimmer that could be adjusted from the outside.
